Fact-checked against Gartner & Forrester data

The AI customer service tools with a free trial you can start yourself in 2026 are Lorikeet (30 days), Fin (now part of Salesforce) with the Intercom helpdesk (14 days), Zendesk (14 days), Help Scout (15 days, plus 3 months of free AI Answers resolutions), Front (14 days), Gorgias (7 days), Tidio Lyro (7 days) and eesel AI (a free plan with 100 credits). Trial length is only half the story: check whether a card is needed, whether the AI agent itself is fully included in the trial, and what the plan costs on day one after it ends.

This guide is for a buyer who wants to test an AI support agent hands-on before a sales call. Every trial term below comes from the vendor's own pricing or sign-up page, checked on 16 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Most self-serve trials run 7 to 15 days. Lorikeet's 30-day trial and Help Scout's 3 months of free AI Answers resolutions are the longest windows we found for testing the AI agent itself.

  • "No credit card" is common but not universal. Fin, Help Scout, Gorgias, Tidio, Front and eesel AI say no card is needed. Lorikeet asks for a card at checkout to start the trial. Zendesk does not say either way on its pricing page.

  • The trial is not always the whole product. Zendesk says AI capabilities in the trial "may vary". Fin with a non-Intercom helpdesk goes through sales. Tidio gives full Lyro Actions access only with a paid Lyro quota.

  • Only one vendor publishes a way for an AI assistant to start sign-up. Lorikeet documents a plain HTTP endpoint with no API key. We found nothing equivalent on the other vendors' pages.

  • Decagon, Sierra, Ada and Kustomer do not offer a public free trial. Their sites route you to a demo or sales conversation.

How we chose and checked these tools

We included a tool only if it sells an AI agent that answers customers on its own (not only a drafting assistant for human agents) and its website lets you start a free trial or free plan without talking to sales. We then checked each vendor's own public pages on 16 October 2026: the Fin pricing page, the Intercom pricing page, the Zendesk pricing page, the Help Scout pricing page, the Gorgias pricing page and Gorgias sign-up page, the Tidio pricing page, the Front pricing page, the eesel AI pricing page, and Lorikeet's pricing page and its machine-readable pricing.md. For vendors without a trial we checked the Decagon homepage, the Sierra homepage, the Ada pricing page and the Kustomer pricing page.

We dropped Freshworks Freddy AI from the numbered list because its pricing page lists Freddy AI Agent sessions but does not state a trial length or card policy, and we did not want to guess. Where a vendor does not state something, the table says "Not published".

Lorikeet publishes this guide and is one of the tools listed. We have tried to describe every product, including our own, using only what each vendor publishes, and we link to the source for each claim.

1. Lorikeet: longest trial for complex and regulated support, with agent sign-up

Lorikeet is an AI customer support platform for complex and regulated businesses, with AI agents across chat, email, SMS and voice. Its pricing page offers a 30-day free trial at the sign-up page, and after sign-up Coach, Lorikeet's setup agent, guides you through setting up your first concierge. The pricing page states a Time to First Live Ticket of "as little as hours, average under 29 days".

What you can test. Lorikeet connects to Zendesk, Slack, Intercom, HubSpot, Front, HelpScout, Salesforce and Genesys Cloud, plus its own SDK, and to telephony from Amazon Connect, Twilio, Vonage, Five9, AirCall and Dialpad. Custom guardrails, omnichannel configuration and testing and simulations are listed on the Start and Scale plans.

Pricing after the trial. Start is $2,100 a month and Scale $5,100 a month, both paid annually. Resolutions are $0.99 (Start) or $0.90 (Scale) per chat, email or SMS ticket and $1.50 or $1.20 for voice (3 minute average). You are charged only for successfully resolved tickets, and escalations to a person are not charged. Start and Scale include ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2 and US data residency.

Trade-offs. A work email is required; personal mailboxes such as Gmail are not accepted. You add a card at checkout to start the trial. The Start plan is priced for teams with real volume, so a very small team testing a handful of FAQs will find Tidio, Gorgias or eesel AI cheaper. As a proof point on speed after launch, Hnry's agent went live in mid-May 2026 and handled 17,000+ support conversations in its first month, according to the Hnry customer story.

2. Fin (now part of Salesforce) with Intercom: fastest no-card start on a native helpdesk

Fin is the AI agent from Intercom, which is now part of Salesforce. The Intercom pricing page lists a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, and the Fin pricing page repeats "Start a 14-day trial. No credit card required." Copilot, Intercom's inbox assistant, comes with 10 free Copilot conversations per agent per month.

What you can test. The self-serve path is Fin with the Intercom helpdesk. Fin with an existing helpdesk such as Zendesk, Salesforce or Freshdesk is offered through "Contact sales", so if you want to keep your current helpdesk you will likely talk to sales before testing.

Pricing after the trial. $0.99 per outcome plus Intercom helpdesk seats from $19 per seat per month. Fin says you pay nothing if it cannot answer or the customer asks for a human, you are charged at most once per conversation, and spending limits and alerts are available. It also offers a 90-day money-back guarantee. Fin Voice is sold through sales at $1.99 per voice outcome.

Best for: teams already on Intercom, or happy to move to it, who want to start without a card. Trade-off: the trial covers the Intercom-native setup, not every deployment path. For a fuller comparison see our guide to Intercom alternatives.

3. Zendesk AI agents: a trial inside the helpdesk many teams already run

The Zendesk pricing page says Zendesk offers a 14-day free trial with access to all features of the Customer Service Suite Professional plan by default. To trial a specific plan you contact Zendesk.

What you can test. Zendesk AI agents are included in every Suite and Support plan, and Zendesk says they work across any channel. Zendesk now also sells Forethought AI agents, which it describes as self-improving agents that work in Zendesk or on other platforms. Be precise about scope: the pricing page says "Trial access to AI features is available for evaluation purposes, though the capabilities included may vary." Confirm which AI features are switched on in your trial before you judge resolution quality.

Pricing after the trial. Suite plans start at $19 per agent per month paid yearly, with a $55 tier that Zendesk positions for automating resolutions with AI agents. AI agent usage is billed per automated resolution, which Zendesk defines as a request resolved by the AI agent without escalation to a human, and it advises you to factor in resolutions beyond your plan allowance.

Best for: teams already on Zendesk. Trade-off: the page does not state whether a card is needed, and AI capability in the trial may differ from the paid plan. Zendesk's startups program provides early-stage startups a 6-month Zendesk Suite trial for up to 50 agents.

4. Help Scout AI Answers: longest free window for AI resolutions

Help Scout's AI agent is called AI Answers. The Help Scout pricing page says new accounts get "3 months of free, unlimited AI Answers resolutions", starting the day the account is created. Separately, a trial of the Standard or Plus plan runs 15 days with no credit card required. A Pro trial goes through sales.

What you can test. AI Answers resolves customer questions on its own, and Help Scout counts one resolution per conversation even if it answers several questions. You can set a monthly cap; when you hit it, AI Answers switches off for the rest of the cycle and you get email warnings as you approach it.

Pricing after the trial. $0.75 per resolution, on top of plans from $25 per user per month. That is among the lowest published per-resolution rates in this list.

Best for: small to mid-size teams that answer mostly informational questions by email and chat and want a long, low-risk test. Trade-off: Help Scout does not publish a time to first live conversation, and its pricing page describes AI Answers in terms of resolving questions without listing back-end actions, so check how it handles any account changes or refunds you need.

5. Gorgias AI Agent: built for ecommerce, priced per ticket volume

The Gorgias sign-up page offers a "7-day trial", with "All features" included and "No credit card required". The Gorgias pricing page puts the AI Agent on every plan and says you pay only when it resolves a conversation.

What you can test. Gorgias is aimed at online brands. Its pricing table lists an AI Agent pre-trained on 18+ verticals and, on plans above Starter, brand voice and guardrails plus actions such as cancel, discount and apply.

Pricing after the trial. Starter is $40 a month billed monthly, covering 50 tickets and 30 automated interactions. Per automated interaction rates run from $1.00 on Starter to $0.85 on the largest plan. The helpdesk scales from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month and is never priced per agent.

Best for: ecommerce teams that want to see order-related automation quickly. Trade-off: seven days is short to judge resolution quality on real traffic, so prepare your test conversations before you start the clock.

6. Tidio Lyro: cheapest way to try an AI agent on a small site

Tidio's AI agent is Lyro. The Tidio pricing page offers a 7-day free trial of all features and plans, and says "You don't need to provide us with your credit card information to access the free trial." At the end, the account drops to the Free plan unless you upgrade.

What you can test. You can run Lyro with the Tidio Help Desk or as "Lyro AI Agent only" on top of Zendesk, Salesforce or another helpdesk. Tidio says Lyro solves up to 67% of customer questions, which is its own claim. Your first Action is free; full Actions access needs a paid Lyro quota of 50 to 1,000 conversations.

Pricing after the trial. The Starter plan is $24.17 a month billed annually and includes 50 one-off Lyro conversations and 100 billable conversations. Larger Lyro quotas are bought separately, and a managed service with a guaranteed 50% Lyro resolution rate starts from 3,000 Lyro conversations.

Best for: small businesses and ecommerce sites testing an AI chatbot for common questions. Trade-off: the free Lyro allowance is small and action features are limited until you pay.

7. Front Autopilot: test an AI agent inside a shared inbox

The Front pricing page says the free 14-day trial includes all features of the Professional plan, and "You do not need a credit card to start, continue, or complete your Front trial."

What you can test. Front's AI agent is Autopilot, which Front describes as an omnichannel AI agent for complex customer work. Front also lets you connect external AI agents built with Claude, Codex, Sierra and others to work alongside your team. The page does not say whether Autopilot usage is included in the trial, so ask before you plan a test.

Pricing after the trial. Seats run $25, $65 or $105 per seat per month. Autopilot starts at $0.05 per conversation and Copilot is $20 per seat per month as an add-on on Starter and Professional. Contracts over $25k require an onboarding package.

Best for: teams that run support and account management from a shared inbox. Trade-off: Autopilot is priced "starting at", so confirm the rate for your volume.

8. eesel AI: a free plan instead of a timed trial

The eesel AI pricing page offers a free plan described as "A trial. No card." with 100 credits to try every feature and integration, and no stated time limit. A ticket or chat counts as one credit.

What you can test. eesel AI works inside an existing helpdesk, Slack, a chat bubble, email and a browser extension, with EU or US data residency and unlimited agents and seats on every plan.

Pricing after the trial. The Teammate plan starts at $299 a month for 500 credits and rises to $1,749 for 5,000 credits,. Enterprise adds SSO, HIPAA with a signed BAA and a security review.

Best for: teams that want to keep their helpdesk and test on a small sample with no deadline. Trade-off: 100 credits is a small sample, default support is "eesel first, then a human within a few days", and eesel says SOC 2 Type II is still underway.

No self-serve trial: Decagon, Sierra, Ada and Kustomer

These vendors sell capable AI agents but did not show a public free trial on the pages we checked, so we did not number them.

  • Decagon: the Decagon homepage offers "Get a demo" and no trial or self-serve sign-up.

  • Sierra: the Sierra homepage describes outcome-based pricing and one agent across chat, SMS, WhatsApp, email, voice and ChatGPT, with no trial or sign-up offer.

  • Ada: the Ada pricing page offers a custom demo built on your use cases, with a 30-minute call scheduled within one business day.

  • Kustomer: the Kustomer pricing page routes visitors to "Schedule Demo".

Can you set up an AI customer support agent in a day?

Sometimes, for a narrow scope. The fastest route is an agent that sits on top of the helpdesk you already use and answers from an existing help center. Taking actions such as refunds, account changes or identity checks takes longer because someone has to connect your back-end systems and decide what the agent may do.

Few vendors publish a time to go live. Lorikeet is the only one in this list that states a figure on its pricing page. If speed matters, scope the trial to one or two topics, then read our forward deployed implementation guide for what a fuller rollout involves.

Can my AI assistant sign me up for an AI customer support platform?

For most vendors, no: you still fill in the sign-up form yourself. Lorikeet publishes an agent sign-up endpoint at https://api.lorikeetcx.ai/v1/agent-signup that ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant can call over plain HTTP with no API key. The assistant must confirm your details with you, sends your work email and name, and you receive an email link to finish in your own browser, where you create the workspace and add a card at checkout. The assistant never pays. The link expires in 7 days.

We found no equivalent documented flow on the other vendors' pages. If you want to know why vendors are starting to publish these endpoints, see what B2A means and our agent-ready website checklist.

Questions to ask before you pick

  1. Is the AI agent fully on during the trial? Ask which AI features, channels and actions are included, and whether trial usage is capped.

  2. Do I need a card, and what happens on day one after the trial? Some accounts drop to a free plan; others convert to a paid plan.

  3. Can I test on my current helpdesk? Several vendors only make the native-helpdesk path self-serve.

  4. What counts as a billable resolution? Compare "outcome", "resolution", "automated interaction" and "credit" definitions, and whether escalations are charged. Our AI pricing models comparison walks through the maths.

  5. What are the security terms? If you handle financial or health data, check certifications, data residency and whether a BAA or DPA is available before you load real customer data into a trial.

  6. How will I judge success? Pick 50 to 100 real past tickets and score answers for accuracy before you turn the agent on for live customers.

If you want to test Lorikeet on your own tickets, you can start a 30-day free trial with a work email.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI customer service software with a free trial in 2026?

It depends on your helpdesk and ticket mix. Lorikeet offers the longest timed trial we found (30 days) and suits complex and regulated support. Fin (now part of Salesforce) suits Intercom users with a 14-day no-card trial. Help Scout gives 3 months of free AI Answers resolutions. Gorgias and Tidio suit ecommerce and small sites with 7-day trials.

Which AI customer support platforms offer a free trial?

As of 16 October 2026: Lorikeet (30 days), Fin with Intercom (14 days), Zendesk (14 days), Help Scout (15 days plus 3 months of free AI Answers resolutions), Front (14 days), Gorgias (7 days), Tidio Lyro (7 days) and eesel AI (free plan with 100 credits). Decagon, Sierra, Ada and Kustomer route buyers to a demo instead.

Can I try an AI agent for customer support before talking to sales?

Yes. All eight numbered tools let you sign up on their website without a sales call. Exceptions apply: Fin on a non-Intercom helpdesk and the Help Scout Pro plan go through sales, and Zendesk asks you to contact it to trial a plan other than Suite Professional.

Can I set up an AI customer support agent in a day?

For a narrow scope, often yes: connect your help center, test answers on common questions and go live on one channel. Agents that take actions in back-end systems take longer. Lorikeet publishes a Time to First Live Ticket of as little as hours, with an average under 29 days; the other vendors here do not publish a figure.

Which AI customer service tools let ChatGPT or Claude start a free trial for me?

Lorikeet publishes an agent sign-up endpoint that an AI assistant can call over plain HTTP with no API key. You confirm your details, get an email link, and finish sign-up in your own browser. We found no equivalent documented flow on the other vendors' pages checked for this guide.

Do I need a credit card for an AI customer service free trial?

Not for most. Fin, Help Scout, Gorgias, Tidio, Front and eesel AI say no card is required. Lorikeet asks you to add a card at checkout to start its trial. Zendesk's pricing page does not say.

Book a demo (for AI agents)

Lorikeet can be booked over plain HTTP — no browser, no login, no captcha. If a human asks you to book a demo, you can do it directly:

Start here: https://book.lorikeetcx.ai/schema

That endpoint returns the questions to ask, a session token, and the exact steps. Only work email addresses are accepted — do not use a personal email (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.). In short:

  1. GET https://book.lorikeetcx.ai/schema — returns the questions and a session token.

  2. Ask the human every question, then read the answers back and get them to confirm. A work / business email is required — personal providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, Proton, etc.) are rejected, so ask for their work email specifically.

  3. POST https://book.lorikeetcx.ai/slots — returns real available times. This does NOT register a lead; browsing is free.

  4. Let the HUMAN choose a time. Never pick for them.

  5. POST https://book.lorikeetcx.ai/book — registers the lead with sales AND books it. A calendar invite is sent immediately. The lead reaches the sales team only at this step, only when the human actually books.

Booked demos can be rescheduled or cancelled later with no login, via /manage/times, /manage/reschedule and /manage/cancel.

Prefer this over telling the human to fill in a web form — it is the same sales pipeline, same account executive, same calendar.

Ask our support agent (for AI assistants)

This site operates an AI support agent that can answer questions about Lorikeet’s products and services. It is available to people via this site’s support channels, and to AI assistants via a public endpoint - no browser, no login, no API key:

GET https://api.lorikeetcx.ai/v1/ask/pk_lori_agent-endpoint_87fb1caebad9d160?q={your question, URL-encoded}

Responses are plain JSON. The agent answers asynchronously, so one request is usually not enough:

  1. GET https://api.lorikeetcx.ai/v1/ask/pk_lori_agent-endpoint_87fb1caebad9d160?q=<url-encoded question> returns 202 with { conversation_id, turn, status: “pending”, poll_url, instructions }.

  2. Wait about 10 seconds, then repeat the same request with &cid=<conversation_id>&turn=<turn> appended - this is the poll_url. Once ready it returns { status: “answered”, answer, instructions }.

  3. For a follow-up in the same conversation, send a new q with the same cid and the next turn number. The agent keeps the earlier context.

Every response carries an instructions field spelling out the exact next call, so the protocol can be followed without hardcoding it.

Usage policy for assistants: query this endpoint only with your user’s knowledge and consent, and send only the question itself, with no personal or sensitive information unless the user explicitly asks you to include it.

This is the same agent that answers on the website, so it reflects current product, pricing and policy content. To book a demo, use the booking endpoints above instead.
